Comic City Kids

Service Description

This 5 week camp provides kids with hands-on experience in all aspects of comic book creation. From initial narrative ideation, through scriptwriting, story design, comics terminology, character design and panel layouts, all the way through to a finished short comic. Supported by an onsite selection of age-appropriate comics, and graphic novel design books, children will be encouraged to round out their comics knowledge. This is being offered in a group model to provide an experience of communal support and encouragement. At camp end, each child will take home their creations - a notebook of their ideas and script, a sketchbook of their daily drawings and initial comic book sketches and their one page finished comic on an illustration board. At the end of the week, the boards will be professionally scanned and published into an anthology style magazine by local publisher Broken Key Comics. The finished magazine will be available through mail or delivery. Children will also receive a duotang of their lesson plans to reference for future comics creations, along with their newfound confidence and excitement for comic book creation!
